Hexstone Limited is the UK's largest supplier of fastenings, fixings, ironmongers hardware and associated products to Distribution and Merchant Trades in the UK. They occupy over 250,000sq ft of warehousing on a single site plus additional offices and warehousing on seven remote sites in the UK.CDN have worked with Hexstone over the last seven years and on the last two projects we carried out two very different IT requirements;
CDN were asked to look at reducing the costs in relation to remote site connectivity. The existing infrastructure was based on Kilostream/Megastream circuits from the central site at Stone in Staffordshire radiating out to 7 remote branches.
It was proposed and implemented that all the remote sites use ADSL/FTTC from different ISP's to provide circuits giving more bandwidth between sites as well as providing more resilience by the use of bonded ADSL/FTTC. These circuits are managed by CDN Networks on behalf of our client.
CDN were also tasked to look at providing a wireless network into the Warehouse facility to automate the picking of product for distribution. This was achieved by the installation of an 802.11n wireless network within the warehouse and offices.
The key requirement was to enable the warehouse to significantly improve picking and distribution times.
CDN surveyed, designed proposed and implemented all elements of the wireless solution working very closely with Hexstone IT staff.
